CyberGhost Review in 2021

CyberGhost Review 2021

CyberGhost is a Romanian-based VPN provider offering many great benefits, and a few drawbacks. This review will help you decide whether CyberGhost is the right VPN service for you.

Countries and Servers

"CyberGhost has excellent coverage."
CyberGhost covers 91 countries with 7300 servers. While the number of servers in and of itself is not a great indicator of quality of VPN service, it's a good indicator that the VPN service had time to expand and cover the globe. You will most likely stick to the servers near your city for maximum performance, so unless you're using a VPN from Antarctica or Mars, you should be covered. For a full list of CyberGhost VPN servers and locations, check out the CyberGhost servers page.

Device Support

"CyberGhost covers overwhelming majority of devices. "
CyberGhost supports all major platforms and devices including Andorid, Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS (iPhone/iPad), Android TV, Routers, Console apps, as well as addons for Chrome and Firefox. But unfortunately, no app for my microwave as of yet to protect my sensitive cooking data. CyberGhost apps are simple to use, intuitive, and very user friendly.

Jurisdiction and Logging

Panama is located outside of the 14 Eye alliance and upholds no log retention laws. Panama does not bulk collect internet activity, which makes it a perfect fit for a VPN company. NordVPN has a strict no-logging policy. This means that no identifiable connection data (such as your IPv4/IPv6 address) is stored. There have been no logging violations from NordVPN to date. While NordVPN does log usage statistics to improve its service, no identifiable information is logged and you are kept safe.

VPN Protocols

"Use OpenVPN, unless you need high speeds, then use WireGuard."
CyberGhost supports OpenVPN, IKEv2, WireGuard, as well as L2TP protocols. The default protocol is of course OpenVPN, which stood the test of time as a reliable, moderate speed protocol for transfering data securely using TCP and UDP. If you do not need maximum speed possible, you will use OpenVPN as it offers the best of all worlds. However, if you need to increase transfer speeds, you have the option to select WireGuard, which will increase transfer speed considerably (up to 300%). WireGuard is an experimental protocol, which means it may have vulnerabilities not yet detected. For that reason, you should stick to OpenVPN unless you need the extra speed. The other 2 protocols have very limited uses and should not be considered.

Free Trial

Unlike most VPN providers, CyberGhost does offer a 1-day free trial to let you test the VPN service before committing to a purchase. However, keep in mind that the free trial will end at the end of the day, rather than 24 hours after signing up. So if you sign up at 10PM, your trial will end within 2 hours. So when they say it's a 1 day free trial... they mean it!
